About This Lesson

It Was a Lover and His Lass, Come Again, Vergene Bella & Gioto al Canto Mio - This unit celebrates enduring music of the Renaissance and features two English songs, one composed by Thomas Morley with words by William Shakespeare from his play "As You Like It,” and two Italian songs. Poetry is combined with music for the purpose of expressing a variety of emotions, especially love. The lessons provide guidance for dancing to a Renaissance song, playing a tune on the recorder and writing a sonnet, then setting it to music. Throughout, there are connections to history, language and visual art.
