About This Lesson
Use research to drive instructional improvement and professional growth! These 7 FREE professional development sessions from the Center for Research Use in Education builds knowledge and skills for using research in your district or school. Sessions will offer:
- practical and useful strategies for strengthening research use
- a choice of 1-hour workshops and asynchronous activities
- a course site full of tools and resources
- opportunity to learn from experts and connect with other educators interested in research-informed practice.

Kick off: What is Research and Why Should I Be Using It? with Dr. Elizabeth Farley-Ripple, Dr. Samantha Shewchuk, & Debbie Micklos who have been investigating how educators access research to inform their decisions.
Finding and Evaluating Research

Evaluating Research: A Cost-Utility Framework? with Dr. Fiona Hollands, Senior Researcher in the Department of Education Policy and Social Analysis at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is one of the creators of DecisionMaker and will be explaining how to use this tool.

Finding and Accessing Useful Research with Erin Pollard of the What Works Clearinghouse, Noreen O’Neill and Laura Mikowychok of the Pennsylvania Evidence Resource Center, and Medha Tare and Jessica Jackson of Digital Promise.
Leveraging School Routines

Using Research-Informed Theories of Change in PLCs with Dr. Chris Brown and Jane Flood, who will share strategies that help teachers to use research-informed theories of change to drive instructional change and support student learning

Using the Marshall Memo in Teams with Kim Marshall, author of the Marshall Memo, a weekly research summary. He will be sharing approaches to engaging with research in teams, meetings, or with colleagues to spark thinking, discussion, and positive change.
Creating Opportunities for Engagement with Researchers

What is an RPP and How Do I Get One? with Dan Gallagher, Curriculum Director at Shoreline School District (WA) and co-author of Creating Research-Practice Partnerships in Education will be describing how to get started engaging with researchers.
Wrap Up Session: Taking Action as an Evidence-Informed Educator with Dr. Elizabeth Farley-Ripple, Dr. Samantha Shewchuk, & Debbie Micklos will help participants develop an action plan, whether they have attended one session or all of the sessions.
