About This Lesson

This is a powerful way to address argumentation writing by using a book with which we are all familiar. Even though the claims are simple, the students quickly realize that Suess is using metaphor to discuss deep ideas and topics. Students decide which paradigm to support: the cat's or the fish's. Then, they unpack the paradigm and apply what they learn to their own lives.
